In line with the government approved forest schools programme, this garden brings outdoor learning and engagement with the natural environment to schoolchildren at this North London primary school.
The garden was built using natural materials such as bespoke chestnut fencing, reclaimed scaffolding and rustic sleepers. Native woodland plants and trees were used extensively to help bring the forest to the school.
Areas constructed include: an outdoor covered classroom, a covered area for creative activities, a table made from reclaimed scaffolding with chestnut legs, a shed, a seclusion area and a covered, custom-built tool store and den building area. A discreet automatic irrigation system ensures the sustainability of the trees and plants.
A series of eight raised beds built from rustic sleepers was allotted to each class to cultivate their own plants.
